A visionary and academic Geography specialist is required to join a distinguished independent school in Southampton from September 2026. This is a full-time permanent leadership opportunity for an experienced practitioner ready to head a high-performing department and drive academic excellence across the curriculum.

The Role
Leading and managing the Geography department ensuring the highest standards of teaching learning and student attainment.
Designing and overseeing a stimulating curriculum across KS3 GCSE and A-Level (or IB) ensuring it remains at the forefront of geographical education.
Mentoring and developing departmental staff through professional learning peer observations and collaborative planning.
Coordinating an extensive co-curricular program including domestic and international field trips and subject-specific societies.
Managing departmental budgets and resources including the integration of advanced GIS technology and digital learning tools.
Analyzing student data to implement effective interventions and maintaining the departments track record of exceptional exam results.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or extensive experience within the independent sector.
A strong honors degree in Geography or a related discipline from a reputable university.
Proven experience as a successful teacher at all Key Stages with a track record of achieving top grades at GCSE and A-Level.
Previous leadership experience or a clear readiness to step into a Head of Department role.
Exceptional organizational skills and a professional resilient approach to school leadership.
