We are seeking a compassionate and clinically skilled Inpatient Hospice & Palliative Medicine Physician to join our interdisciplinary medical team. Reporting directly to the Medical Director this physician will provide comprehensive inpatient hospice and palliative care services while supporting patients and families through serious illness symptom management and end-of-life care.
This role combines direct patient care interdisciplinary collaboration medical leadership and educational outreach within a mission-driven organization dedicated to compassionate patient-centered care.
The physician will participate in inpatient coverage night and weekend call rotations care planning and administrative responsibilities while contributing to educational and quality improvement initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
Provide direct inpatient hospice and palliative care services for assigned patients
Deliver comprehensive symptom management and goals-of-care discussions
Conduct medically necessary patient visits family meetings and care coordination activities
Provide hospice attending physician services and palliative consultative care
Participate in inpatient and on-call coverage rotations including nights and weekends
Complete accurate and timely medical documentation coding and billing
Perform certifications and recertifications in compliance with Medicare regulations
Issue medical orders prescriptions pre-authorizations and complete required medical forms and death certificates
Leadership & Collaboration
Provide leadership and oversight to the inpatient palliative care team at assigned sites
Collaborate closely with the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) and participate in care planning meetings
Serve as the Medical Directors designee when appropriate
Maintain current evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in hospice and palliative medicine
Support service recovery and provider outreach initiatives related to hospice and palliative care
Education & Outreach
Provide education to physicians healthcare professionals staff patients and community members
Participate in outreach performance improvement leadership and educational initiatives
Assist in the education of medical students residents and fellows
Participate regularly in Medical Staff meetings and organizational committees
QualificationsEducation & Licensure
MD or DO degree required
Active medical licensure (or eligibility for licensure) in both Kentucky and Indiana required
DEA and controlled substance registration required
Experience
Fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine OR
Minimum of 2 years of post-residency medical experience required
Experience in hospice palliative care hospital medicine geriatrics or primary care preferred
Board Certification
Board Certification in Hospice & Palliative Medicine preferred
Board-eligible candidates accepted with expectation of certification within 5 years of employment

Demonstrated expertise in hospice and palliative medicine
Strong interpersonal communication and family counseling skills
Ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Compassionate patient-centered approach to serious illness and end-of-life care

Working Environment
Primarily inpatient care settings
Travel between facilities offices and patient care locations may be required
Participation in rotating inpatient weekend and after-hours call coverage required
