Advertising Summary:Student Assistance Services at New Mexico State University is seeking a Case Manager to support students navigating complex challenges that may impact their ability to succeed. This role provides direct individualized support to students experiencing concerns related to mental health basic needs (food housing financial hardship) and other life disruptions. The Case Manager conducts assessments develops support plans and connects students to campus and community resources while coordinating care across university partners. The position also contributes to CARE Team and Behavioral Intervention Team efforts helping assess risk and implement appropriate interventions.



This role requires strong judgment collaboration and the ability to manage complex and sometimes high-risk situations. Candidates should bring relevant experience working with individuals in crisis or high-need environments. The Case Manager plays a critical role in supporting student well-being and persistence by addressing barriers outside the classroom and ensuring students receive timely coordinated support.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Case Manager for Student Assistance Services provides high-touch student-centered support to individuals navigating personal emotional or academic challenges that may impact their well-being or ability to persist at New Mexico State University. Reporting to the Director of Student Assistance Services this position manages a comprehensive case management portfolio to support students experiencing crisis distress or basic needs insecurity. The Case Manager conducts needs assessments coordinates outreach and follow-up and connects students with appropriate campus and community resources. The role requires sound judgment strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple campus departments including the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) Aggie Health and Wellness academic colleges and other student support services.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
Associates Degree 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors degree 2 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Student Affairs Counseling Social Work or related field. Crisis intervention training (e.g. QPR Mental Health First Aid ASIST).

Familiarity with basic needs support resources including food housing and transportation services.

Experience collaborating on Behavioral Intervention Teams or similar multi-disciplinary student support teams.

Experience with development and coordination of educational programming in higher education.

Experience working as a mediator or as a facilitator of conflict resolution processes; One or more years of experience in case management.

Special Certification/Licensure:

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
