DescriptionThe Cline School of Music at North Greenville University is seekinga dynamic Adjunct Faculty member in Piano. Primary responsibilities will be accompanying vocal and instrumental lessons and recitals and teaching secondary piano.
Familiarity with keyboard-related technology applications and non-staff based musical styles may provide additional flexibility in the assignment of specific duties but is not mandatory.
The ideal candidate should have piano teaching experience strong music reading skills and recent professional performance experience. The ideal candidate will be a confident performer who can consistently collaborate in an academic setting and has a genuine interest in helping young musicians succeed as performers and educators.
North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith are role models in their piety and ethics are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ.
Faculty of the University shall by accepting each years employment agreement annually
- Affirm an understanding of and willingness not to teach contrary to the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
- Affirm understanding of and willingness not to teach contrary to the Universitys Statement on Human Flourishing
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach private piano lessons
- Provide accompaniment for student lessons and performances
- Prepare for classes by organizing and becoming familiar with student material
- Prepare lesson plans and course material as required
- Effectively organize and present subject matter to students
- Objectively assess students for academic performance
- Ensure security of assessment tools and confidential documentation
- Effectively utilize Canvas learning management system
- Appropriately maintain student records grades and attendance to ensure accuracy
- Meet all university deadlines for syllabi and grade submission
Physical Requirements
- Mobility: Able to move between buildings and attend classes meetings and functions across campus.
- Speaking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately professionally and with a contextually appropriate tone and volume.
- Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and express emotions and thoughts in an honest collegial constructive and prudent manner.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Music Industry adjuncts first report to the Associate Dean of the Cline School of Music and the Dean of Communications and Fine Arts.
WORK SCHEDULE
The working hours of the University are M thru F 8:00 to 5:00 however times beyond those may be required. The schedule of the adjunct will be determined by the mutually determined teaching assignments.
Qualifications- Masters degree or higher in piano or a related music field
- Preference will be given to applicants holding a terminal degree.
- Experience and a passion for teaching
- Understand and comply with FERPA regulations
- Support NGUs mission statement and core values commitment to a Christian lifestyle and character in keeping with the biblical model
