Job Summary

The Opportunity
The Senior Project Officer will be in charge of managing the administrative reporting and staff-related tasks of large research projects led by Professor Andrea Morello. These are highly competitive milestone-driven research projects that bring large external funding to the University and are accompanied by complex management obligations. This project seeks to develop hardware components for a silicon-based quantum computer. The research takes place within a diverse dynamic team of students and researchers in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at UNSW. The position entails experience in managing complex and time-critical accounting reporting and personnel related tasks. The associated specific responsibilities are listed below. The role of Senior Project Officer reports to Professor Andrea Morello and has no direct reports.

  • Salary Level 7: $113926 - $123302 per annum 17% superannuation
  • Full Time
  • Fixed-Term to April 2027
  • Location: Kensington Sydney Australia (on campus attendance required)

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Proven project experience with an understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans objectives and documentation.
  • Strong experience in research project administration and financial management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a complex academic environment.
  • High-level stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of university governance grant management and compliance requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail problem-solving ability and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to support and facilitate the work of researchers and academics in the team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to liaise with a diverse range of people from government industry and academia at different levels in their organisations.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
