Position Summary

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher provides rigorous relevant instruction aligned with the North Carolina Career and Technical Education Essential Standards to prepare students for college careers and workforce readiness. The teacher integrates academic and technical skills promotes career development and supports students in achieving industry-recognized credentials where applicable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instruction aligned with NC CTE Essential Standards for assigned program area (e.g. Business Health Science Agriculture Family & Consumer Sciences Trade & Industrial etc.)
  • Provide engaging hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to real-world applications
  • Integrate career readiness skills including communication teamwork problem-solving and professionalism
  • Prepare students for industry certifications/credentials aligned with program area
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs including Exceptional Children (EC) English learners (EL) and academically gifted students
  • Incorporate work-based learning opportunities such as internships apprenticeships job shadowing and clinical experiences (as applicable)
  • Assess student performance using formative and summative methods and use data to inform instruction
  • Maintain accurate student records including grades certifications and program documentation
  • Support and/or serve as advisor for Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) (e.g. FBLA HOSA FFA SkillsUSA FCCLA etc.) as appropriate
  • Assist students in developing Career Development Plans and postsecondary pathways
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom lab or shop environment including proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols
  • Ensure compliance with state federal and program-specific safety regulations
  • Collaborate with school counselors administrators and community/business partners to support student success
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local industry and workforce stakeholders
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and ongoing professional development including CTE-specific training
  • Stay current with industry trends certifications and instructional practices
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and career readiness
  • Follow all Macon County Schools policies procedures and expectations
  • Demonstrate professionalism ethical conduct and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration

  • Knowledge of CTE content area and industry standards
  • Understanding of career development and workforce readiness skills
  • Ability to deliver hands-on experiential instruction
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to specific CTE program areas
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to build partnerships with business and industry
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and equipment relevant to program area

Physical Requirements

  • Light to medium work classification (may vary by program area)
  • Ability to stand walk and move throughout classroom lab or shop environments
  • Ability to lift instructional materials and equipment (up to 2550 pounds depending on program area)
  • Ability to safely demonstrate and supervise use of tools and equipment

Evaluation

  • Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System (NCEES) and Macon County Schools evaluation procedures

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time 10-month position
  • Salary based on the North Carolina State Salary Schedule with applicable local supplement
  • Work calendar determined by the district

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in CTE content area or related field or eligibility for lateral entry based on industry experience
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license in appropriate CTE area or ability to obtain licensure through alternative pathways
  • Relevant industry experience in the CTE program area preferred or required (based on licensure pathway)
  • Ability to meet all NCDPI CTE and Macon County Schools employment requirements
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain industry certifications/credentials as required
