Position Overview:
The mission of the Office Of Family and Community Advancement (OFCA) is to develop a district-wide culture of engagement and advancement fostering and prioritizing partnerships between families schools the district and our BPS community partners with a shared understanding that each of us has an accountable role in every students success story from enrollment through graduation and beyond.
The District Manager of Family Engagement Practice & Integration advances the districts vision for high-impact family engagement by supporting the implementation of system-wide strategies that strengthen partnerships between schools and families. This role focuses on building the capacity of school-based staff and district teams to implement sustainable family engagement practices that improve student outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings a successful track record as an educator strong project management skills coaching and training experience and a passion for family engagement that accelerates student learning. This role works across schools regions and district departments to design and facilitate learning experiences provide coaching and technical assistance and develop tools and resources that support high-quality family engagement practices. The District Manager ensures that family engagement efforts are aligned with district priorities and embedded within school systems rather than implemented as isolated initiatives.
The position plays a critical role in advancing the districts Family Friendly Schools Initiative (FFSI) by supporting schools in strengthening family partnerships shared decision-making structures and meaningful opportunities for family leadership and learning. The role also contributes to the development of scalable models and evaluation practices that strengthen consistency impact and accountability in family engagement across schools.
This role places family engagement in direct service of student success by intentionally connecting academic priorities teaching and learning with school-community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Implementation & Strategy
- Possess a deep understanding of BPS and Department of Education policies practices and regulations related to the engagement of families and students (including ESSA English Learners special education and college and career readiness).
- Support the implementation of district-wide family engagement initiatives and strategic priorities.
- Contribute to the development of frameworks tools and implementation guides that support consistent family engagement practices across schools.
- Collaborate with regional teams and school leaders to integrate family engagement into each schools Quality School Plan and district priorities.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen system alignment between family engagement practices and broader district initiatives.
- Support the districts implementation of the FFSI and related engagement strategies.
Capacity Building & Coaching
- Provide coaching and technical assistance to Family Liaisons school leaders and school-based staff to strengthen family engagement practices.
- Facilitate professional learning sessions workshops and communities of practice that build staff capacity to engage families effectively.
- Support schools in developing sustainable systems for family engagement including communication practices family leadership opportunities and shared decision-making councils.
- Promote equity-centered family engagement practices that elevate family voice and leadership within school communities.
- Bring strong project management and organizational skills with attention to deadlines quality and mission-critical priorities.
Family Learning & Academic Partnership
- Develop and implement innovative approaches that engage families in supporting student learning including strategies that strengthen early literacy and mathematics and promote parentchild learning experiences at the elementary level.
- Collaborate with team members to design and facilitate family learning opportunities for middle and high school communities ensuring programming aligns with developmental needs and district priorities.
- Partner with the BPS Academics Office to develop and facilitate family learning sessions aligned with BPS Learning Standards using research-based principles and methodologies for adult learning.
- Develop and facilitate family learning opportunities tailored to community needs leveraging technology and research-based strategies to ensure accessibility and impact for all families including multilingual and historically underserved populations.
- Leverage digital tools and communication platformsincluding webinars videos and social mediato expand access to family learning opportunities and engagement resources for diverse parent communities.
- Support the development of family leadership and engagement opportunities that strengthen school-community partnerships.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and manage collaborative relationships with school leaders Family Liaisons district staff and community partners to support the implementation of family engagement strategies.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among departments and school teams working to strengthen family engagement practices.
- Coordinate collaborative work among internal and external partners to ensure alignment and effective implementation.
- Provide guidance and facilitative leadership to partners and project teams without formal supervisory authority.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and implementation of evaluation tools that measure the effectiveness and impact of family engagement initiatives.
- Collect and analyze participation implementation and feedback data to inform program improvements and strategic planning.
- Identify trends challenges and opportunities related to family engagement practices across schools.
- Contribute to reports presentations and internal communications that highlight the impact of family engagement work across the district.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic priorities of the Office of Family & Community Advancement.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in education public administration social work community engagement or a related field.
- Passion for family engagement and its role in supporting student success.
- Minimum of 35 years of experience in family engagement community engagement education or a related field.
- Experience designing and facilitating professional learning workshops or training sessions.
- Experience as a teacher leader mentor coach or leading district- and school-level engagement efforts.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with school leaders staff families and community partners.
- Experience supporting program or initiative implementation across multiple stakeholders.
- Experience coaching school-based staff or supporting school improvement initiatives.
- Data- and results-oriented with the ability to establish benchmarks define measurable outcomes and backward-plan strategies to support effective implementation and continuous improvement.
- Strong facilitation communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as a self-starter taking initiative to identify needs solve problems and advance work priorities with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning including actively seeking opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with respect to serving a diverse population.
- Proficiency with technology and experience using Google Workplace Suite online survey and communication tools.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally linguistically racially socioeconomically and religiously diverse populations and adapt to all learning styles.
- Demonstrated success engaging and supporting families from historically marginalized populations.
Preferred
- Experience working in urban school districts or public education systems.
- Familiarity with frameworks related to family engagement shared decision-making and family leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships across teams schools and departments while coordinating collaborative work among diverse stakeholders without formal supervisory authority.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency in high-incidence district languages (e.g. Arabic Cape Verdean Creole Chinese Haitian Creole Portuguese Somali Spanish Vietnamese).
