Job Summary
Summary:To help students who the TEAM determines require Occupational Therapy to realize competencies relate to peers and master the environment the occupational therapist will assist in the identification evaluation and treatment of students in the areas of reflex integration sensory integration body image visual perceptual skills motor planning coordination hand skills and self-care. Essential Duties and Responsibilites:Test and evaluate all students referred for occupational therapy assessments write IEPs for students enrolled in the program and attend all TEAM meetings of the previously mentioned students. Provide direct occupational therapy to students individually in a small group or in the classroom and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day. Use a multisensory approach and provide experiences for children to develop motor skills utilizing practical activities. Develop and/or enhance compensatory techniques for physical skills to help students work to their full potential in the regular education setting. Develop plans and instructional materials and provide individual and small group instruction. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction. Evaluates students physical and social growth keep appropriate records prepare progress reports and adjust the program according to evaluation results. Communicates with parents and teachers through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program. Identify students needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping promote students health attitude learning and physical capabilities. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Select and requisition books and instructional aids and maintain required inventory records. Required Qualifications:Department of Health as an Occupational TherapistA minimum of a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university knowledge of diagnostic techniques. A valid drivers licensePrevious experience working in schools or with children preferred
