Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Building Electrical Designer to join our team in Sydney. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in electrical design for commercial residential institutional and industrial buildings along with demonstrated experience participating in client meetings coordination sessions and project presentations. This role requires strong technical design skills familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

• Develop electrical designs drawings and specifications for building systems including:
  • Power distribution
  • Lighting and lighting controls
  • Fire alarm and life-safety systems
  • Emergency/backup power systems
  • Communications and low-voltage systems (as applicable)
• Prepare technical documentation using AutoCAD Revit and other design tools.
• Conduct load calculations short-circuit analysis and equipment sizing.
• Coordinate with mechanical structural architectural and other design disciplines.
• Participate in client meetings design presentations and project coordination discussions.
• Review and interpret building codes standards and client requirements to ensure compliance.
• Provide support during construction including responding to RFIs reviewing shop drawings and conducting site visits as required.
• Ensure design quality accuracy and adherence to project timelines.
• Collaborate with project managers and senior engineers to deliver projects efficiently.
• Input to the career development of junior staff including technical direction training recommendations coaching and mentoring.
• Contribute to Dillons corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

• A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards including:
  • Canadian Electrical Code
  • National Building Code of Canada
  • CSA IEEE IES standards
• Strong communication skillsboth written and verbal.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• EIT CET or . designation (or eligibility) considered an asset.
• Detail-oriented and organized.

• Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills.

• Able to interface confidently with clients and project teams.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in building electrical design.
• Experience attending or supporting client and stakeholder meetings.
• Experience working in Canada and familiarity with local building requirements and utility standards (e.g. Nova Scotia Power).
