Job Summary

Report To: Principal

General Definition of Work

The Music Teacher plans and delivers engaging performing arts instruction for students in grades 4K8 fostering creativity self-expression and a life-long appreciation for music. The teacher supports students musical development by integrating age-appropriate techniques music history and cross-curricular connections. The Music Teacher monitors student progress activities and learning outcomes addressing individual student needs as appropriate. Additionally the teacher maintains a safe supportive and effective learning environment and communicates regularly with students parents and administration regarding student progress expectations and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma required

Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision

Innovative creative and self-motivated

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Experience working with elementary and middle school students preferred

Cooperative able to work with supervising teachers and other staff members

Skill in interpersonal relations with pupils parents teachers staff and the general public

Outstanding references from current and former supervisors

Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function

  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their knowledge and skills in music and in the proper use of musical equipment tools and/or supplies.
  • Prepares teaching materials for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  • Develops lessons that address grade level and content standards for the purpose of designing engaging work for students.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and structured environment for all activities.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs interests and abilities of students.
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior and classroom management in gymnasium classroom and outdoor settings
  • Collaborate with colleagues administrators and parents to support student success.
  • Ensure proper use care and inventory of equipment and facilities.
  • Follow all school policies procedures and safety guidelines.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young learners while being creative and enthusiastic for music and performing arts education.
  • Strong skills in classroom management collaboration and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students staff administration and the public.
  • Understanding a childs behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Certification

South Carolina certification in Music preferred

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Drivers License or ability to provide own transportation

Prior to beginning employment negative tb test results must be provided

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Work requires long periods of standing or walking around the classroom especially when giving instruction monitoring students or using whiteboards/projectors.
  • Requires clear verbal communication and strong listening skills to engage with students parents and colleagues.
  • May require projecting voice in noisy environments or large classrooms.
  • Managing behavior supporting diverse student needs and maintaining classroom engagement.
  • Breaks are limited and structured around school schedules (e.g. lunch prep periods).
