Job Summary:
A Used Car Technician is responsible for diagnosing repairing and maintaining used vehicles ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform Inspections and Repairs: Conduct thorough inspections of used cars to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Perform necessary repairs and maintenance tasks to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition.
- Test Drive Vehicles: After repairs conduct test drives to verify that issues have been resolved and that the vehicle operates correctly.
- Maintain Equipment: Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working order and follow safety protocols in the workshop.
- Explain repair needs and costs to Used Car department providing clear and honest assessments of vehicle conditions.
- Document Repairs: Maintain accurate records of all repairs and services performed on vehicles including parts used and labor hours.
- Must read interpret and transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records.
- Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Maintain a clean safe working environment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of automotive systems.
- Ability to use the diagnostic equipment and tools including power tools.
- Willingness to learn with hands-on training.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
- Ability to provide friendly customer service.
Education and Experience:
- Automotive and engine repair experience or auto mechanic training preferred.
- Working knowledge of state inspection guidelines particularly those concerning emissions and safety is advantageous.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- ASE certifications required.
Physical Requirements:
- May lift objects that weigh as much as 50 lbs.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Frequent reaching bending squatting pulling and lifting.
