Duty Days: 187 days per year
Primary Purpose:
Assists librarian in the administration of the campus library; performs routine clerical duties under direct supervision.
Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent and ability to pass a rigorous content-oriented exam
or
- Associate degree or 48 semester hours of college credit
Certification
- Current Texas educational aide certificate or ability to obtain
Experience
- Some experience working with children
- One year clerical experience
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office
- Ability to file books following district cataloging system
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Provides individual instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including computers and audiovisual equipment.
- Shelves incoming books materials and equipment.
- Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.
- Requests and schedules use of materials from regional education service center or other source.
- Prepares bulletin boards and displays and assists the librarian in preparing instructional materials.
- May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.
- Operates the media center automated circulation system.
- Collects and maintains records of student fines and prepare parent notification as needed.
- Performs routine maintenance on audiovisual equipment.
- Receives and processes books materials and equipment and reconciles with packing slips and invoices.
- Repairs books magazines materials and equipment or process for repair at outside facilities (e.g. bindery).
- Assists in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.
- Maintains physical and computerized files including card catalog and publisher catalogs.
- Prepares bibliographies forms purchase orders requisitions and routine correspondence using personal computer.
- Assists librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Supervises students and assists librarian and teachers to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.
- Performs assigned student monitoring duties.
- Supervises library operation in absence of the librarian.
- Assists with the supervision of parent volunteers and student aides.
- Follows all rules regulations and policies of the Denton ISD and follows directives from superiors.
Student Management
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Help supervise students throughout school day inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom bus and playground duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Other Related Duties:
- Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participates in professional development department meetings and special events as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Tools and Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard library equipment including imaging equipment; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Regular sitting standing kneeling squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard library equipment including imaging equipment; standard instructional equipment
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular overhead reaching; climbing ladders; occasional pushing or pulling book cart audiovisual equipment or computer cart
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (1544 pounds); occasional carrying and lifting of books to stock or restock shelves; weights of single books and files up to 5 pounds; when lifting more than 20 pounds must use two (2) person rule.
Environment: Work inside; work alone; exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust; may require occasional district-wide and statewide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
