Fire & Safety Assistant Specialist

What were looking for

The Fire & Safety Team within the LR Global Technical Support Office has a strong specialisation in design review for Type Approval and MED Certification of Lifesaving products for marine vessels and offshore facilities which are Certified in accordance with Statutory Regulations Flag State Requirements and Classification Rules and International Standards. The team is also responsible for approval of novel lifesaving appliances at the leading edge of technology

The Fire & Safety Team mainly carries out Type Approval MED Certification plan appraisal and consultancy in the areas of marine vessels and offshore facilities according to a range of statutory codes and rules international standards etc. The work the Fire & Safety Team carries-out has helped cement LRs position as one of the leading class society in the maritime industry.

The Fire & Safety Team also plays a leading role in the implementation of new IMO and IACS regulations and provides guidance and clarification to both LR colleagues and clients worldwide.

The role

  • Plan approval of Fire and Lifesaving arrangements to various statutory codes international standards and rules in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Assistance and coordination of new rules and regulations relating to various novel products.
  • Conducting occasional site visits at various shipyards client sites testing laboratories or production facilities as required to successfully complete projects.
  • Developing expert knowledge and experience of Fire and LSA arrangements and Canadian regulatory framework to risk-based project teams to ensure project outcomes are met.
  • Assisting the business in the bid and win process for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements for a range of projects.
  • Management and oversight of project schedules financial tracking contract risk management procedures and issues plus associated project documentation and supporting compliance with all legal statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Attendance at and preparation of reports as required for audits that are conducted by external bodies.
  • Providing visible pro-active HS&E leadership ensuring that all LR Corporate and local HS&E policies and processes are followed including any necessary client-specific requirements in particular ensuring that stated requirements for incident reporting task risk assessment and safe methods of work are followed.
  • Actively seeking to ensure client satisfaction and to generate new opportunities with our clients.

What you bring

  • Engineering or Science degree
  • Experience in or knowledge of Fire Safety Engineering
  • Entrylevel to junior profile

Preferred but not required

  • Working towards a professional engineering qualification
