The Lead Acoustic Design Engineer is responsible for the overall noise strategy and compliance of FACTS (STATCOM and SVC) projects. This role ensures that our solutions meet stringent customer noise limitations and international environmental standards through advanced modelling and optimized design. You will be accountable for noise studies throughout the project lifecycle from the tender stage to final site validation. At the lead level you are expected to drive technical excellence standardize noise modelling practices and lead complex studies with high autonomy.

Job Description

You will be the lead technical expert for noise impact assessments of substation and STATCOM systems ensuring both indoor and outdoor noise levels are within defined limits.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute comprehensive noise studies usingSoundPLANsoftware based on substation layouts.
  • Evaluate noise emissions from key FACTS equipment including transformers reactors cooling systems (fans/pumps) and power electronics valves.
  • Analyze customer specifications and local environmental regulations to define noise limitation targets for projects and tenders.
  • Design and optimize noise mitigation measures such as acoustic enclosures noise barriers damping materials and optimized layout configurations.
  • Perform internal building acoustics analysis (indoor) and environmental noise propagation studies (outdoor).
  • Work with equipment suppliers to validate their noise performance data and ensure components meet project-specific noise targets.
  • Lead or support on-site noise measurements to validate simulation results against actual project performance.
  • Standardize the noise study process within the FACTS business unit and provide guidance to junior engineers and sales teams during the bidding phase.

Required Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc inMechanical EngineeringAcoustics orElectrical Engineeringwith a strong focus on noise and vibration.
  • Substantial experience (Lead level) in noise study and acoustic design for high-voltage substations industrial plants or power systems.
  • Expert proficiency in SoundPLAN softwareis mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of international noise standards (e.g. ISO IEC IEEE).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills inEnglish.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in FACTS (STATCOM/SVC) or HVDC projects is a significant advantage.
  • Knowledge of structural dynamics and mechanical vibrations.
  • A solution-focused mindset with the ability to optimize costs while meeting technical constraints.
