About this Position

The Academic Advisor provides holistic student-centered guidance to a caseload of students supporting their academic planning courseselection and progress toward graduation. This role assesses student needs interprets university policies and makesappropriate referralswhile elevating complex issues toadvisingleadership as needed. The advisor proactively promotes student success through ongoing communication directed outreachmonitoringacademic performanceaccuratedocumentation within university systems and participation in standard university-wide events including Orientation and Enrollment (O&E) and Commencement. They guide students through essential processesincluding forms appeals and procedural requirementswhile ensuringtimely clear responses to collaboration with colleagues and academic departments the advisor contributes to student success initiatives offers feedback on curriculum and policy and may serve as a mentor within the advising team. The position also includes teaching 12 sections of UNIV 1111 andparticipatingin professional development and campus engagement activities that advance the overall student experience. Academic Advising at OSU expects that advisors willdemonstrateknowledge and implement NACADACore ValuesandCore Competencies in their practice. Academic Advisors have a regular physical presence on campus to support walk-in advising needs and same-day student support; this requires a daily in-person presence on campus.

This posting is for multiple positions serving either psychology majors or biology physiology and zoology majors.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors

  A masters degree may be substituted for up to three (3) years of required degrees maywarrantadjustment to years ofexperienceequivalency.

  (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Academic Advisor I: Bachelors Degree and zero two years of experience in a comparable position.
  • Academic Advisor II: Bachelors Degree and two to three years of experience incomparableposition. Teach up to two sections of Univ IIII.
  • Academic Advisor III: Bachelors Degree and three to five years of experience in a comparable up to two sections of Univ IIII.
  • Senior Academic Advisor I: Bachelors Degree and five to seven years of experience in a comparable position. Teach up to two sections of Univ IIII.
  • Senior Academic Advisor II: Bachelors Degree and seven years of experience in a comparable position. Teach up to two sections of Univ IIII. Administrative experience that could include responsibility with unit programs and/or student groups; supervisory experience to include interviewingtrainingand development etc. of employees and/or student leaders; and/or coordination of special projects.

  • Proficiencywithadvisingtechnologies and student information systems and ability to use data to track student progress and informadvisingdecisions.

  Advising Counseling & Student Support Skills

  • Ability to provide academic counseling and developmental guidance including support related to courseselection goal setting career exploration and academic challenges.
  • Skill inidentifyingand supporting at-risk students providing proactive outreach referrals and follow up to promote persistence.
