Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.The Paralegal I provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to the General Counsels Office within the North Carolina Department of Transportation. This role assists attorneys agency staff and external stakeholders with preparing reviewing and managing legal documents case files and research to ensure timely accurate and organized legal work. The position serves as a key liaison to the Attorney Generals Office and outside counsel. Additionally this position supports the Office of the Secretary on special projects ensuring effective operations across the State of North Carolina while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: LG03 $52370 - $78554
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Considerable knowledge of case statutory and common law with experience analyzing and applying precedents in litigation or administrative proceedings.
- Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures including strict adherence to rules of evidence docket management and hearing preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex legal research and analysis utilizing primary and secondary sources to prepare findings legal briefs and supporting documentation.
- Experience in summarizing case facts compiling evidentiary records and drafting legal instruments including motions orders and memoranda.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex federal and state transportation regulations agency policies and procedures translating them into clear guidance for stakeholders.
Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an appropriately accredited institution for paralegal training; or Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of substantive paralegal experience; or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and five years of paralegal experience performing delegated substantive legal work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
