Cemeteries & Crematoria NSW (CCNSW) is a statutory agency created in 2014 under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013 to support and regulate cemetery and crematoria operators in NSW and provide information on burial and cremation options to the public.

CCNSW is leading the transformation of the interment sector so that all people in NSW have access to sustainable affordable and culturally appropriate services which are provided in a consistent transparent and accountable manner.

This involves implementing a new licensing scheme for operators of cemeteries and crematoria monitoring their compliance with new licence conditions developing policies and regulations in response to emerging issues and exploring future directions for the sector.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an energised agency delivering new projects to meet clearly defined strategic priorities. The team is collaborative responsive customer and delivery-focused. It works in a fast-paced and dynamic area of policy and regulation.


The role
The Policy and Insights Officer is a data-driven policy problem solver. They provide statistical information and analysis on an array of data including financial data to support the development and implementation of evidence-based policy solutions and guide strategic and operational decisions and support informed regulation and compliance.

The Policy and Insights Officer is part of the Policy and Insights team. The role undertakes quantitative and qualitative research information collection and analysis on a wide range of interment sector regulation and compliance issues including cemetery capacity demand and perpetual maintenance.

This includes identifying and evaluating relevant data statistical and information sources and providing written analysis. This is a diverse role with exposure to many aspects of the agencys work. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enabling data-driven policy and decision-making as well as supporting ongoing internal process improvement and business development.

What you will bring to the role

  • Data analytical skills and experience in analysing data from multiple sources to provide meaningful reports. Stakeholder liaison expertise; project management skills
  • Proficiency in statistics data manipulation software and languages (Microsoft Excel R Python or similar) and data visualisation (PowerBI Tableau or similar).
  • High-level written interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to work with diverse professionals in a collaborative environment.
  • High level administrative skills to develop and maintain clear and thorough project documentation to support informed decision-making.
  • Enjoys autonomy and demonstrates proficiency in working independently taking initiative and making decisions.
  • Team player with the ability to thrive in a multi-skilled team environment.
  • Experience in the cemetery and crematoria sector is highly regarded.


What is an essential requirement:

  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy or relevant field and/or demonstrated equivalent experience.
