ABOUT YWCA TORONTO WOMENS SHELTER
Womens Shelter in East York is a 25-bed emergency shelter supporting women and gender-diverse people with or without dependents who are fleeing violence. The program includes a Transitional Housing and Support Program that offers up to two years of post-shelter support to promote safety stability and long-term housing outcomes. Womens shelters operate 24/7 and are grounded in feminist principles trauma-informed and strengths-based care harm reduction anti-oppressive practice transparency and a spirit of addition to shelter accommodation all programs provide nutritious and culturally diverse food access to health care crisis intervention supportive counselling individualized service planning clinical and recreational programming as well as opportunities to engage in advocacyKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cleans all common areas emptying the wastebaskets dusting furniture and wiping all surfaces including windowsills;
- Sweeps and washes floors in common areas;
- Cleans and disinfects washrooms removes garbage and replenishes paper towel and toilet paper in all washrooms as needed;
- Cleans kitchen bi-weekly including; wiping cupboards dishwasher microwave fridges stove oven counter tops and walls;
- Cleans empty bedrooms including: wipe mattress all surfaces with disinfectant vacuum and clean out any remaining belongings and garbage;
- Informs the supervisor when restocking of supplies is required;
- Maintains cleanliness of backyard garbage area;
- Ensures that the Health and Safety guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of YWCA Toronto;
- Wears appropriate safety and PPE equipment when carrying out responsibilities;
QUALIFICATIONS
- A generalized education at high-school level (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
- 1 to 3 years directly related experience
- Knowledge of cleaning products and their use
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lift 15 kg and bend to perform duties safely
- Ability to safely use a ladder
- Completion of WHMIS training
- Ability to interact in a respectful and professional manner with a diverse community of women and young women within shelter and housing environments
- Understanding and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience working in a residential setting an asset
