Policy Communications & External Affairs Manager, Policy Comms & External Affairs

Amazon is seeking a self-motivated and high-judgment communications professional to join its Policy Communications and External Affairs team. The team is at the forefront of shaping communications around the most advanced technologies on the planet helping to advocate for policies that enable customer innovation and demonstrating the positive impact that our investments bring to the places where we operate. This role will drive communications efforts at the national level and in our data center regions across the US helping raise awareness among key media third-party partners and local policy stakeholders about Amazons policy priorities advocacy initiatives and positive impact on customers industries and communities.

The ideal candidate has strong media relations and strategic communications experience especially securing agenda-setting stories with Tier 1 national media. They excel at translating complex technology concepts into clear compelling narratives and brings a background in supporting public policy initiatives. They will have a proven track record of working effectively internally across complex cross-functional teams and externally with policymakers businesses and suppliers in a fast-paced environment while delivering impactful results.

This role requires a passion for technology and its role in transforming industries and communities. The candidate should have experience executing integrated public affairs campaigns across earned paid and social media channels. A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent writing and storytelling skills sound judgment under pressure and an ability to engage both policy and business audiences.

This position is based in Seattle WA or Arlington VA and will require periodic travel.


Key job responsibilities
Work closely with Amazons Infrastructure Public Policy and Economic Development teams to drive awareness of Amazons national state and local advocacy objectives and positive impact on customers industries and the communities where we operate
Develop communications plans written content and other communications assets in support of Amazons policy and investment objectives
Support a broad range of external communications programs and events aligned with Amazons policy objectives
Establish and foster national state local and regional media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about Amazon
Provide communications counsel to business leaders
Work cross-functionally to plan and execute Communications campaigns


- 7 years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelors degree

- An entrepreneurial spirit including ability to work independently
- Strong strategic thinking and organizational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to communicate complex topics effectively
- Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done
- Strong judgement a knack for diplomacy and the confidence to engage and build consensus with functional leaders at all levels

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
