Cork University Hospital is the largest single multi-speciality hospital in Ireland.
It is the only Level 1 Trauma Hospital in Ireland.
Regional specialities include neurosurgery plastics and burns cystic fibrosis and cardiac surgery. It is the centre in Cork City and county for trauma orthopaedics.
CUH is the largest multi-specialty site in the country. CUH physiotherapy department has a staff of over 70wte providing services across inpatients outpatients & outreach.
The Physiotherapy Department provides physiotherapy care within Cork University Hospital St. Finbarrs Hospital Rehabilitation Unit and Cork University Maternity Hospital. Physiotherapy plays an integral role in the multidisciplinary team.
The service also provides weekend and on-call services respiratory and orthopaedic services under specific criteria. The postholder will be required to participate in this.
Flexibility will be required with regard to the working week as the post holder may be required to give classes/cover clinics in the evening and at weekends.
Theatre Complex and Surgical Hub
The Theatre Complex and Surgical Hub in CUH will ensure the provision of elective and emergency surgical procedures in the specialist theatre environments of Cardiothoracic General Vascular Orthopaedic Neurosurgery Pancreatic Colorectal Plastics Trauma Urology Renal Hepatobiliary Gynaecology and day procedures for adults and children. The Theatre Complex works on a 24/7 basis. There are a total of 13 theatres and 15 recovery bays.
The Surgical Hub at Cork University Hospital (CUH) will be a dedicated facility designed to enhance day-case surgery and ambulatory capacity addressing public waiting lists in advance of the development of regional elective hospitals. It will be located on the CUH campus a Model 4 hospital and will operate under the governance of CUHs surgical/perioperative directorate.
The post holder will work across all relevant areas of the CUH campus including the Theatre Complex and Surgical Hub.
The Physiotherapist will work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the service in the newly developed Surgical hub to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organization. The Senior Physiotherapist will be responsible for the provision of a high quality Physiotherapy service and will carry out clinical and educational duties as required in accordance with standards of professional practice.
Purpose of the Post
To be responsible for the provision of a high-quality Physiotherapy service in accordance with standards of professional practice.
To work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the population it serves in line with the objectives of the organisation.
To work with the Physiotherapy Manager in ensuring the co-ordination development and delivery of a quality client centred physiotherapy service across and between networks in the geographical area.
To carry out clinical and educational duties as required.
