Science Teaching Role in a Community School

A community secondary school in Barrow-in-Furness is seeking to appoint a Science Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a school that supports a broad and inclusive curriculum with a focus on developing student engagement and progress in Science.

The department delivers a balanced curriculum across Biology Chemistry and Physics supported by shared resources and structured schemes of work.


About the Role

You will teach Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 delivering lessons that cover the core scientific disciplines. The role includes both theoretical teaching and practical laboratory work to support student understanding.

You will prepare students for GCSE Science examinations helping them develop subject knowledge practical skills and confidence in assessments.

Depending on experience there may be opportunities to contribute to Key Stage 5 teaching.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency in teaching and assessment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Science across KS3 and KS4

  • Deliver lessons covering Biology Chemistry and Physics

  • Plan and supervise practical laboratory activities

  • Prepare students for GCSE Science examinations

  • Assess student work and provide structured feedback

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records

  • Maintain safe laboratory environments

  • Contribute to departmental planning and shared resources

Essential Requirements

  • Strong classroom management skills

  • Good organisational and communication skills

Desirable

  • Specialism in Biology Chemistry or Physics

  • Experience teaching KS5 Science

  • Experience preparing students for GCSE examinations
