Job Summary

CLASS TITLE: BEHAVIOR COACH

BASIC FUNCTION:

To assist in providing behavior support plans and crisis intervention plans. Monitor and support students as assigned collect data for behavior support plans and monitor and provide feedback to staff on student behavior progress.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Assist students in classroom activities which may include implementing and modifying students instructional plans.
  • Collect data and maintain records accurately for tracking and recording student progress on behavior support plan goals.
  • Act as a crisis intervention person using district approved procedures during times when the student is experiencing severe problems. This may include physical restraint problem solving behavior rehearsal debriefing and transition management.
  • Model for school staff the use of replacement strategies/redirection and the utilization of self-monitoring systems when implementing behavior supports for students with behavioral challenges.
  • Prepare and organize materials for instructional purposes specifically related to positive student behavior and learning.
  • Communicate appropriately with individuals including families students and special education staff. Refer concerns expressed by families students or others to appropriate staff.
  • Attend to student medical needs as delegated by the health care action plan.
  • Maintain current certification/training in district-approved program(s) for physical restraint such as Crisis Prevention Intervention or Safe Crisis Management.
  • Attend appropriate training professional development building meetings and/or school functions as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Follows all Board of Education and SBDM Council policies and procedures and all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Behavioral supports and strategies.
  • Medical technology for use as delegated by health care action plan.
  • Correct English usage grammar spelling punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills using tack patience and courtesy.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic public speaking techniques.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with software for web browsers word processing spreadsheets presentations email etc.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment.

ABILITY TO:

  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Promote and follow Board of Education and SBDM Council policies and procedures.
  • Communicate interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience in working with children required. Bachelors degree in the field of psychology social work education or a related field preferred. Valid state teaching certificate preferred.
