The opportunity
The Data Engineer Lead is responsible for designing building and maintaining the EPAs data pipelines platforms and integration frameworks to support high-quality data availability analytics and regulatory intelligence. The role provides technical leadership across data engineering activities and plays a key role in implementing the EPAs data strategy and modern data architecture.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Data and Analytics the position leads the development and optimisation of cloud-based data solutions that ensure data is reliable secure and accessible for evidence-based decision-making and digital transformation.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following key knowledge and experience:
- Proven experience designing developing and maintaining large-scale data pipelines and integration frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Microsoft Data Fabric).
- Proficiency in SQL Python Spark or equivalent data engineering languages and tools.
- Understanding of modern data architecture principles including data lakes data warehouses and event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with CI/CD DevOps and infrastructure-as-code practices for data engineering environments.
- Knowledge of data governance quality management and metadata frameworks.
- Experience in mentoring and providing technical leadership within data or analytics teams.
- Excellent problem-solving analytical and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
Also it is an essential requirement of this role for the successful candidate to have relevant industry certification for ICT systems platforms and or services or equivalent experience.
About the team
The Data and Analytic team are responsible for providing oversights and guidance over all Data and Analytics solutions across EPA.
The team is actively executing the data strategy to consolidate all EPA data assets to an enterprise grade cloud-based data platform. Equipping the EPA teams with state-of-the-art data processing capabilities and industry leading data management standards.
We offer the foundation platforms governance framework and analytical capabilities to transform raw data into business insights and actionable intelligence. We enable the organisation by promoting and upholding industry leading data practices in engineering architecture governance and analytics.
