Principal Engineer Plumbing & Fire Protection, REC

As our new Principal Engineer - Plumbing & Fire Protection REC  you will be part of a world-class innovation-driven engineering design center owned by an independent trust and its employees. REC is a highly sophisticated center of engineering excellence and is based in our India head office in Gurgaon. Working in partnership with all our established offices globally the Ramboll Engineering Centre (REC) is a center for excellence in design by offering optimized solutions to the rest of the organization.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

• System Design: Develop plumbing and fire protection system layouts design reports and specifications (P&ID water mains sewer drains sprinkler/standpipe networks). Perform hydraulic/pumping calculations as needed.
• Codes & Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs meet local and international codes (NFPA IPC NBC BS/EN ASME B31 for piping standards). Stay current with amendments and local fire and plumbing regulations.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Lead BIM/CAD coordination meetings resolve clashes and integrate MEP interfaces. Use software tools (Revit MEP Navisworks BIM 360) to produce coordinated models and 3D visualizations.
• Design Review & QA/QC: review design deliverables IFC drawings and submittals from contractors. Ensure design calculations and documentation accuracy and maintain discipline standards per the firms QA manuals.
• Construction Support: Respond to RFIs and technical queries during construction. Perform site visits to verify installations and troubleshoot issues.
• Client/Stakeholder Liaison: Attend project meetings coordinate with architects structural and other MEP engineers and present designs to clients and authorities. Ensure customer requirements are reflected in the design.
• Leadership & Mentoring: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Manage or contribute to project scoping and resource plans.
• Calculation of Hot & Cold Water flow calculation hydraulic calculations distribution systems (sizing valves pumps etc.) water heating systems water storage systems.
• Design of drainage sewage and storm water systems in the Metro Tunnel and buildings gravity & pumped solutions.
• Design of fire protection systems including sprinkler systems water mist hydrants wet/dry risers hose reels fire suppression and clean agent systems in accordance with latest NFPA and EN.
• Prepare design deliverables such as layouts schematics hydraulic calculations equipment schedules technical specifications and technical design reports.
• Prepare /review project specifications material submissions and technical documentation.
• Participate in internal and client design review meetings to discuss technical aspects and design solutions.
• Provide inputs for value engineering sustainability and system optimization.
• Stay Updated on Industry Developments: Keep up-to-date with new plumbing system technologies codes standards and emerging trends to enhance design efficiency and system effectiveness.
• Project Types: Extensive experience on large-scale projects is essential: metro and rail (underground/at-grade stations tunnels) airport terminals tunnels (road/rail) bridges/viaducts buildings utility infrastructure (water treatment pumping stations).
• Technical Scope: Expertise in both plumbing (domestic water hot water sewage rainwater drainage sanitary venting) and fire protection (sprinkler system design standpipe/hydrant networks fire pumps foam/water-mist systems design).
• Code and standards: Extensive knowledge of international and national plumbing drainage and fire protection codes and standards including IPC BS EN and NFPA.
• Experience managing full project cycles with strong knowledge of different design stages including concept preliminary tender and detailed design along with preparation of related technical documentation such as design reports technical specifications and related 2D and 3D drawings.
• Experienced in performing technical reviews of design documents equipment specifications and compliance checks with applicable codes standards and project requirements.
• Experienced in interdisciplinary coordination with mechanical electrical architectural and civil teams to ensure seamless integration of MEP systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in communication and stakeholder management with clients contractors and regulatory authorities. Possess strong skills in technical reporting effective communication and stakeholder coordination.
• Must be able to lead team to complete tasks within established project schedule and budget constraints.
• Ability to provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and BIM specialists.

Qualifications :

• Minimum 8 years of experience in the design of Plumbing and fire protection systems design and calculations
• Masters/bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is typically required. Specialization in plumbing and firefighting engineering is an advantage.
• Proficiency in hydraulic calculation software like MagiCAD HASS or Sprinkcalc is an advantage.
• Licenses and Certifications: Possessing relevant professional certifications and licenses such as an PE I-Eng and C-Eng license demonstrates expertise and enhances credibility.
• Analytical Skills: Capable of analyzing complex engineering problems and providing innovative solutions.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in using AutoCAD Revit and MicroStation software for plumbing and firefighting system design.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and present technical information concisely.
• Excellent proficiency in collaboration tools such as ProjectWise SharePoint etc.
