Job Summary:

The purpose of this job is to provide functional instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities as assigned by the teacher in the classroom.

Essential Duties

1. Assist students with disabilities by working with small groups to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
2. Assist students with disabilities in matters pertaining to compliance with behavior intervention plans or medical needs at school and/or during school bus transportation to and from home and on school sponsored study trips.
3. Assist students with disabilities in matters of personal tasks such as mobility skills personal hygiene and self-help skills.
4. Participate in in-service training programs as needed.
5. Assist teachers by locating preparing and organizing instructional materials.
6. Guide independent study enrichment work and remedial work set up by the teacher.
7. Assist students with mobility toileting feeding and communicating.
8. Perform related work as required.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Prefer some experience working with disabled children.

Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone to enter data into a computer and to perform required tasks; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift 25 to 50 pounds; to bend to stoop to sit on the floor to climb stairs to walk and to reach overhead.
