Job Overview
We are hiring a Press Tech Group Leader to support and improve high-volume metal stamping operations. This role is responsible for leading a production team improving stamping efficiency reducing downtime and driving Lean Manufacturing initiatives including SMED.
The ideal candidate brings strong tool & die knowledge hands-on stamping experience and proven leadership in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Stamping Operations & Technical Support
Optimize stamping processes to meet quality safety and production targets
Troubleshoot tooling and die issues using strong tool & die knowledge
Partner with engineering and tool room teams to improve die performance
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
Lead process improvement initiatives focused on waste reduction and efficiency
Implement Lean Manufacturing tools with emphasis on SMED (die changeover reduction)
Track production metrics and drive data-based improvements
Preventative Maintenance
Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs for stamping equipment
Coordinate with maintenance teams to reduce downtime and extend equipment life
Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented and followed
Leadership & Team Development
Lead coach and develop production team members in a servant leadership style
Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one performance coaching
Support employee relations and collaborate with union representatives when needed
Operational Excellence & Collaboration
Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
Work cross-functionally with Quality Engineering Maintenance and Tool Room teams
Lead problem-solving efforts and support operational decision-making
Establish goals aligned with plant performance metrics and KPIs
Project Management
Lead manufacturing improvement projects from planning through execution
Manage timelines resources and deliverables to meet operational goals
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Manufacturing Engineering Industrial Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
5 years of experience in metal stamping or manufacturing operations
Strong knowledge of tool and die principles
Proven experience implementing SMED in a manufacturing environment
Experience in high-volume or fast-paced manufacturing preferred
Skills & Competencies
Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook)
Strong leadership mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Physical Requirements
Standing for long periods of time
Stooping bending and manual dexterity
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance
