Job Summary

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
  • Base salary range: $95231 $100643 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The Minderoo OceanOmics Centre is a collaborative initiative between the University and the Minderoo Foundation established to transform ocean conservation through marine genomics and environmental DNA (eDNA).

Based on the Crawley campus the Centre brings together reference genome eDNA and computational biology laboratories equipped with highthroughput sequencing platforms laboratory automation and advanced computational infrastructure. The team works in a highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment producing highquality openaccess genomic data that supports global marine research and conservation outcomes.

About the opportunity

  • As a Scientific Officer you will provide highlevel technical expertise across genomics and eDNA laboratory operations supporting research staff students and visiting researchers.
  • You will play a key role in processing and analysing genomic and eDNA samples optimising laboratory workflows and ensuring the delivery of highquality sequencing data in line with QA/QC and safety standards.
  • Working closely with a diverse research community you will also contribute to training troubleshooting documentation of protocols and the ongoing development of bestpractice laboratory systems.

About you

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in genetics genomics molecular biology or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in DNA extraction highthroughput sequencing library preparation and sequencing platform operation including troubleshooting and protocol optimisation.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC standards and best practice in molecular biology and nextgeneration sequencing.
  • Experience training and supervising students or junior staff in a laboratory environment.
  • Excellent organisational communication and problemsolving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
