Job Summary

The Automation Foreman is a field leadership role responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a team of Automation Technicians supporting upstream oil and gas production. This position provides direct field oversight of wellsite instrumentation pressure and level monitoring equipment electronic control devices burner management systems remote terminal units (RTUs) chemical injection systems communication systems and radio/microwave communications infrastructure. The Automation Foreman ensures that data is reliably transmitted from the wellsite through radio and microwave networks into QB Energys primary servers and that all automation systems operate safely accurately and in compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Team Supervision

  • Provide direct day-to-day field supervision of a crew of Automation Technicians.
  • Assign daily work priorities coordinate crew schedules and ensure efficient coverage across all active wellsite locations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and technical escalation for field crew members.
  • Report crew performance progress and field conditions to the Operations Manager on a regular basis.

Wellsite Instrumentation & Monitoring Systems

  • Oversee installation commissioning calibration and maintenance of wellsite equipment.
  • Direct field activities related to tank level monitoring systems including float/displacer transmitters ultrasonic level devices and associated wiring.
  • Supervise the installation and troubleshooting of Electronic Control Devices (ECDs) including plunger lift controllers and well optimization equipment.
  • Oversee operation setup and maintenance of Burner Management Systems (BMS) at production facilities and wellsites ensuring safe ignition control and flame monitoring compliance.
  • Ensure all instrumentation is properly scaled ranged and documented in accordance with QB Energy standards.

RTU & Communications Infrastructure

  • Oversee the installation programming and maintenance of wellsite Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) including Fisher ROCs Auto Pilots and similar field controllers.
  • Supervise radio and microwave communications systems including MDS iNet-II TransNet 9810 and 9710X radios ensuring reliable data transmission from the wellsite to company servers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve communications outages data gaps and signal integrity issues impacting SCADA and data historian performance.
  • Verify that data from all wellsite assets is flowing correctly through the radio and microwave network into QB Energys primary servers and SCADA platform (CygNet).
  • Support configuration of HMI/SCADA screens and alarm setpoints at the field level as directed.

Safety Compliance & Standards

  • Enforce QB Energys safety policies field procedures and regulatory requirements on all work performed by the crew.
  • Conduct pre-job safety briefings (JSAs) and ensure all crew members are equipped with appropriate PPE.
  • Ensure compliance with BLM measurement standards and data integrity requirements applicable to wellsite automation.

Project & Maintenance Support

  • Coordinate crew participation in capital projects wellsite tie-ins facility upgrades and system commissioning activities.
  • Support preventive maintenance scheduling and execution for all wellsite automation assets.
  • Communicate project status scheduling conflicts and resource needs to the Operations Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Duties

  • Direct supervision of QB Energy Automation Technicians
  • Participate in onboarding field training and skills development for team members
  • Approve daily timecards and coordinate on-call and callout scheduling within the crew.
  • Provide input to the Operations Manager on crew performance training needs and personnel matters.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Accredited one- or two-year technical diploma in instrumentation electronics or a related field preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in upstream oil and gas automation instrumentation or I&E maintenance.
  • Prior field leadership or crew lead experience strongly preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small field crew with clear direction and accountability.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across instrumentation communications and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams P&IDs and equipment manuals.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate between field crew operations and supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to transferring technical knowledge and building crew capability.

Specialized knowledge:

  • Hands-on experience with wellsite RTUs including Fisher ROCs Auto Pilots Weatherford/KimRay Ferguson/PCS and Total Flow platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with MDS iNet-II TransNet 9810 and 9710X radio systems.
  • Familiarity with CygNet SCADA platform
  • Working knowledge of pressure and level instrumentation used in upstream oil and gas production environments.
  • Experience with Electronic Control Devices (ECDs) plunger lift controllers and Burner Management Systems (BMS).
  • Understanding of data transmission concepts including serial communications Modbus and radio/microwave network architecture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook).

Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Valid Colorado drivers license with a drivers record acceptable to QB Energys insurance carrier.

Compensation

The base compensation for this role in this location is targeted between $112000 and $131000 annually. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the range listed above.

Work Conditions

Location:

This position is in Parachute CO. Candidates currently residing in locations outside of daily commuting distance will be considered however it is the expectation that the selected individual will be available at the work location.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time position that operates in a field environment. The role requires flexibility to work weekends nights holidays and handle callouts as needed. Employees must be able to work and drive in various weather conditions including extreme temperatures wind snow and rain. Overtime may occasionally be required resulting in extended work shifts. Individuals must possess the physical ability to safely handle the tools necessary to perform their duties. This position is subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing.

Physical Demands:

In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individuals might be asked to climb balance stoop kneel crouch reach and/or crawl. Individuals might be required to lift carry push or pull up to a minimum of 50 the performance of this position.
