Purpose of The Role

This is an opportunity for an ambitious and creative content maker to join the BBC in York. BBC Radio York broadcasts across North Yorkshire and our towns and cities are vibrant ambitious and are surrounded byYorkshires iconic countryside. Our mission at BBC RadioYorkis to entertain inform and educate our audience here in NorthYorkshire but we aspire to go beyond that. We aim to surprise and delight our listeners every day.

The role of a Programme Journalist (PJ) is a key role in the station helping us connect audiences with our content and personalities like Georgey Spanswick Joanita Musisi and Bek Homer. Our shows are all about celebrating where we live telling great stories and having fun with our audience and now you have the chance to be a part of our team.

We are currently looking for a talented and enthusiasticProgramme Journalist(PJ) to join our team based inYork bringing NorthYorkshires stories alive across all our role requires a great deal of flexibility and range of skills as one week could be outputting one of our Radio Programmes the next it could be making content for BBC Sounds and the next reporting across North Yorkshire. With that in mind we are looking for a great all-rounder who enjoys working with different teams and in different roles from one week to the next.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • To carry out pre-production and post-production tasks in both studio and field settings including the creation of live and pre-recorded programmes.
  • Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism and to carry out duties at all times in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy and editorial and social media guidelines.
  • Use a range of video audio and digital equipment and information technology to research write assemble edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium to the highest professional standards.
  • To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC to ensure that output material is shared duplication is avoided and best practice is upheld.
  • Must be able to work in a reporting and outputting capacity as this role works across multiple skillsets.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Strong journalistic experience with sound editorial judgment knowledge of BBCs news agenda and production techniques.
  • Technically proficient in using tools to gather broadcast material and skilled in writing and adapting content for various audiences and platforms including social media.
  • Highly organised and adaptable able to manage multiple priorities meet deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Excellent team player and communicator capable of building effective relationships across teams and contributing creative ideas for improvement.
  • Committed to diversity and inclusion with an understanding of how individual differences strengthen the BBC.
