PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Were looking for a great producer and journalist to work at CNS supporting audio production and compiling and reading radio news bulletins across BBC Local Radio stations in England and the Channel Islands. As an experienced journalist and newsreader with great delivery youll bring an energy to showcase the best of our local journalism to wider audiences. Youll be as comfortable producing audio and you are on-air with a strong drive to innovate collaborate and create impact as part of the wider Central Team at the heart of BBC Local.

As well as being one of the voices of news bulletins across the local radio every weekday evening youll work with colleagues to produce and deliver news content to local radio stations focusing on the biggest stories of the day showcasing BBC Locals best journalism and content and helping deliver significant moments and guests to BBC Local Radio.

CNS is part of BBC Locals Central Team supporting our network of newsrooms and radio station. We have a strong reputation for delivering high-quality and high-impact content. The wider Central Team spearheads BBC Locals online news and sport services read by millions of people each week as well as our data journalism team.

This role is based in Salford alongside regional teams from the north west and national teams including BBC Sport BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Breakfast.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

Youll have substantial journalism experience first class writing skills a strong sense of BBC Locals audience and news agenda and a critical ear. Youll enjoy working as part of a diverse team and be confident in contributing ideas to our wider output. Youll have sound editorial judgement a confident working knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines and the ability to work under pressure.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrable experience as a journalist including producing and delivering accurate engaging news content to tight deadlines in a live or fast paced environment
  • Proven experience of preparing and reading news bulletins with a confident professional broadcast voice and strong editorial judgement
  • Evidence of live reporting on breaking news or major events showing the ability to remain calm accurate and responsive under pressure
  • Strong multi-platform experience collaborating with 5teams to maximise reach.
  • Knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines with the ability to work in a team environment under pressure.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • An understanding and working knowledge of the BBCs products such as BBC News Online and/or BBC Sounds.
  • Experience of working with national news and planning teams to create high-impact moments.
