MES is seeking a compassionate and dependableSpecial Education Instructional Health Assistantto support students in a elementary school setting.
Maryville Elementaryis looking for a caring compassionate student centered individual to join our team. This individual needs to be organized flexible a team player and willing to support the needs of all students at MES. We are looking for someone with experience with children with special needs including emotional behavior disorders. This individual will be able to help students to engage in their learning experiences. We believe that creating a positive loving environment for every student every day will create a legacy of excellence in our community and in their future.
Responsible for supporting teachers and school staff by assisting with classroom instruction providing behavioral support to students and helping meet students health care needs during the school day in accordance with state laws and district policies.
This position assists students with academic behavioral and health-related needs to ensure they can fully access their educational program. The ideal candidate demonstrates patience flexibility and a strong commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and medical needs.
Responsibilities:
Assist students the daily instructional activities under the supervision of a certified teacher.
Provide academic support in small group and one-on-one settings
Support implementation of IEP accommodations and behavior plans
Assist with health-related tasks as directed by the school nurse or administration
Help maintain a safe structured and supportive learning environment
Monitor and document student progress as directed
Support students during transitions lunch and other school activities

Position Details
Hours:6.5 hours per day(plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
Contract Length:183 days per year
- 170 student instructional days
- 4 holidays
- 7 planning days
- 2 extended days
Contract Adjustments:Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date
Employment Status: Full-time with benefits
Employment Type:10-month employee on the classified pay schedule
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education:Must meetoneof the following:
- 48 college semester hours
- An Associates Degree OR
- High school diplomaplusa passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam.
- Documentation:Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.
Compensation & Experience Credit
Salary for the 2026-2027 school year will be based on Board approved salary schedule.
2025-2026 Pay Scale
- Starting Pay (Step 0):$15.98/hour
- Experienced Pay (Step 10):$19.67/hour
We value experience!Previous experience working with students intervention systems and small-group instruction is strongly desired.
New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable full-time verified experience.
- The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.
Payroll Note:While this is an hourly position the salary is distributed via a year-long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.
