About the Opportunities

The Generation & Storage Investment team plays a central role in stewarding the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmapthe States plan to coordinate investment in renewable generation storage and transmission to replace retiring coal-fired generation and maintain a reliable affordable energy system.

Operating at the intersection of policy strategy and delivery the team focuses on identifying barriers to investment and progressing practical responses so that generation and storage projects reach key financial close and construction milestones and support the roadmaps investment objectives.

A key component of the role is supporting the Development Pathway Taskforce which reports to the Portfolio Oversight Committee (POC). This includes providing secretariat support and coordinating implementation of the Taskforces cross-agency Action Plan.

The role also involves developing targeted and practical programs of work to unlock investment and accelerate delivery with a current focus on new grid connections wind generation and post-planning approval project delivery processes. This provides a direct opportunity to shape the initiatives that will advance NSWs renewable energy infrastructure pipeline.

Key responsibilities

The Acting Manager will lead the GSI team and delivery of its work program including:

  • Leading the development of other post-planning approval initiatives to support the delivery of renewable energy and storage projects with the intention of preparing a report to Cabinet on these initiatives.
  • Leading the development of the grid connection acceleration program including finalising program design funding allocations and procurement.
  • Working with Roadmap entities through the Development Pathway Taskforce wind sub-group on a package of reforms to urgently support delivery and financing for number of critical wind projects in the REZs.
  • Working with ASL SFV and the Commonwealth to monitor delivery progress of LTESA and CISA tender awardees respond to delivery risks and provide strategic advice regarding current and upcoming tenders.
  • Secretariat and policy lead for the Development Pathway Task Force monitoring and escalating risks to achieving the development pathway ad legislated minimum objectives and tracking delivery of the development pathway Action Plan.
  • Other BAU work including correspondence meeting notes event briefs budget estimates and executive briefings.

  • Lead with confidence and judgement in a fast-paced high-priority environment
  • Provide clear strategic advice to senior decision-makers
  • Bring together diverse inputs and translate them into practical recommendations
  • Deliver high-quality written outputs under tight timeframes.

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge of the workings of government and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in leading policy research development and regulatory change
