About the role

The Operations division is responsible for operating todays systems and market securely and reliably along with supporting AEMO to navigate the energy future. Within the Market Management department of the Operations division sits the WA Prudentials and Settlements team which is responsible for the sound financial management of the Western Australian Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). The functions include settlement prudential management metering operations. The role level is flexible based upon the applicants experience.

Working autonomously you will use your well-developed analytical skills and subject matter expertise to identify analyse define test and implement rule process and system changes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes and systems. Working towards becoming a subject matter expert you will contribute to strategic projects related to market enhancement and process improvement projects through the provision of analysis option development and recommendations on solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Working independently or in small groups within the team to perform metering and settlement functions in compliance with the ESM Rules and WEM Procedures within defined deadlines.
  • Identify and undertake root cause analysis reporting risk assessment and implementation of fixes or mitigations related to technical or compliance issues.
  • Develop and maintain open supportive working relationships with team members and other teams establish effective networks across the business and contribute to agreed team outcomes.
  • Using an understanding of systems rules and processes undertake complex quantitative and qualitative analysis which assess market outcomes to inform decision making and support projects.
  • Recommend process and procedure improvement activities and projects that reduce compliance risk improve operational efficiency and deliver improved market outcomes.

What you will bring to the role

  • Degree in economics computing commerce engineering science or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a commercial or regulatory environment. Including interpreting and operating in compliance with technical documents and/or legal instruments such as rules and regulations.
  • Proven qualitative and quantitative analytical skills that provide technically resourceful evidenced based solutions to issues and execute solutions in a constructive and timely manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders including market participants and AEMO staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high quality written reports and deliver effective presentations which communicate technical complex concepts or data analysis to informed audiences.
