Job Summary

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

This position is responsible for teaching physical education to students in Grades K-5.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and teach a comprehensive and integrated elementary physical education program for children kindergarten through fifth grade.
Use necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials which are suited to the well-being of the students and to the nature of the learning activities program and/or curriculum involved; implement established program or curriculum objectives; attend in-service training; continue to improve professional growth through study and experimentation; remain current in methods and techniques of instruction.
Establish and implement in a positive and supportive manner classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provide guidance counseling and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; make referrals for assistance where appropriate.

Confer with students parents or guardians and other staff in an open and positive manner to provide guidance evaluation and encouragement of student achievement.

Attend or participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional development.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to and is supervised by the Building Administrator

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE(positions in this class typically require):

Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in Physical Education.

Maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certification and have the physical ability to perform CPR/First Aid if necessary.

BA degree with substantial training and/or experience in elementary physical education.

KNOWLEDGE& SKILLS (position requirements at entry):


Training/experience providing individual success-oriented experiences for children.
Training/experience providing lessons that reflect sound principles on how the 5-12 year old child learns.

Experience in assisting with instruction in special activities such as movement exploration dancing rhythmic competency tasks creative dramatics and recess and playground activities.
Experience in protecting and broadening the childs self-concept through PE activities.
A strong and positive attitude that each student can be taught and has the right and capacity to achieve personal excellence.
Experience in classroom management skills and the use of positive reinforcement for on-task behavior.
Experience in working with early childhood and developmental philosophy and physical education programs.

Knowledge of constructing a safe environment at all times for students during PE activities.
Ability to integrate physical education activities into music art and classroom instructional programs.
Current knowledge of child development theory and its implications for teaching and learning.
Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students including gifted mainstreamed special education English language learners and students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
Ability to work with students in multi-aged groups.
Ability to work in a collaborative or team approach.
Ability to communicate effectively with students parents and colleagues orally and in writing.
Ongoing professional development activities such as college course work professional associations workshops and in-service.
Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a general posting for one or more Physical Education/Health Teacher positions. Positions may be full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.

$73990to $ 138754 annual salary prorated based on assignment FTE (based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreementsalary schedule). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.


Medical dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon .45 FTE. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
