REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION LEVEL: | Masters degree in Reading or Masters Degree with an endorsement in Reading (willingness to pursue endorsement may be acceptable). |
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: | Evidence of at least five years of exemplary teaching experience in the classroom. |
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: | Ability to plan model and provide professional learning on targeted instructional strategies for all learners (e.g. special education general education); must possess instructional technology skills communicate effectively and relate well with students school personnel and parents. Have knowledge of the Science of Reading foundational reading development and skills curriculum materials content standards and assessments. |
CERTIFICATION
This position requires avalid South Dakota teaching certificationwith endorsements in the content area.

YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING
South Dakota Codified Lawequires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years.Compliance is verified through district accreditation will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District.

PROGRAM SUMMARY
The Secondary Literacy Coach is a key instructional leader who supports the implementation of effective literacy practices across all high school content areas and classrooms. The coach will lead and facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) provide targeted training for reading intervention teachers and offer high-quality professional learning focused on embedding literacy strategies across the curriculum. This position is central to improving student literacy outcomes through data-driven instruction collaborative planning and ongoing teacher support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
Curriculum Instruction Assessment
Assists classroom teachers with understanding the purpose of each component of district reading interventions (e.g. System 44 Read 180 LitZone iLit and others as determined by the SFSD)
Assists teacher with instructional planning to achieve reading intervention and instructional objectives and establish a positive classroom environment
Assists in analyzing formal and informal data on student achievement in reading to inform instructional planning
Provides relevant information from research and professional literature on best practices in reading instruction foundational reading skills
Utilizes cognitive coaching to support staff growth in curriculum reading instruction and assessment
Job Specific Professional Responsibilities
Models or provides models for effective teaching strategies specifically in the application of strategies for reading instruction and intervention
Provides professional development around specific intervention tools Science of Reading changes in instructional methodology
Analyzes student reading achievement data to determine building needs and assist with educational planning and programming placement and course selection for individual students
Assists in identifying designing and delivering individual and building level professional development related to student achievement goals in reading
Coordinates and monitors assessment windows related to intervention tools
Facilitates monthly reading intervention team meetings with middle schools to share data and review the placement needs of individual students
Collaborates with instructional coaches and other staff to monitor the fidelity of implementation of all interventions and instruction
Communicates consistently and positively with staff
Maintains confidentiality regarding students and staff
PAY INFORMATION
Starting at $53981 to $60793 per year based on experience.
