Position Summary and Qualifications:

Under the direction of the Director of Student Disability Services (SDS) the SDS Specialist has broad responsibility for ensuring that the University community understands and complies with federal and state statutes that affect conditions and educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The SDS Specialist works closely with the Director to oversee University-wide disability support services and provide equal access to curricular and co-curricular activities for all students who qualify for accommodations. The SDS Specialist works collaboratively with campus partners to foster academic and professional success for individuals with disabilities.

This position is primarily on the Hawk Hill campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main proctor and point of contact for all logistics for the Hawk Hill Testing Center

  • Coordinate the scheduling tracking and supervision of the Hawk Hill (HH) & University City (UC) Testing Centers including communicating with professors about tests and exams proctored in the Testing Center in coordination with the students who utilize the Testing Centers.

  • Ensure the academic integrity of the HH Testing Center by closely monitoring all transactions with exams including the proctoring of the exams maintaining confidential security of the exams and reporting incidents of academic dishonesty when applicable

  • Recruit hire and train graduate assistants who provide exam proctoring at HH & UC Testing Centers

  • Organize Workforce Recruitment Program (Summer Federal internships for students with disabilities) in collaboration with the Career Center

  • Serve as a University contact for current and prospective students and parents regarding accommodations for students with disabilities.

  • Review and analyze medical and psychological evaluations of students to determine eligibility for academic accommodations

  • Conduct intake interviews to identify students needs and to explain eligibility requirements for services and accommodations

  • Decide on reasonable accommodations that maintain essential course requirements and are consistent with the course of study and policies at the University

  • Direct the provision of support services to students with documented disabilities including readers scribes note-takers audio books captionists sign language interpreters and other assistive technology materials

  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to implement reasonable accommodations for course-specific pedagogy and assessment for classroom lab clinical experiential and online learning environments

  • Work closely with the Registrars office to ensure accessible class locations for students with physical disabilities.

  • Evaluate and obtain assistive technologies for students with disabilities.

  • Assist with managing the Accommodate system

  • Serve as a liaison/advocate for students with a disability and the members of the University community with whom they interact; Residence Life Health Center Office of Learning Resources the Kinney Center Athletics Counseling Center faculty and others.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the payment of note takers at the end of each semester

  • Support students in completing paperwork for testing accommodations for study abroad certification exams LSATs GREs etc.

  • Co-host University-wide education and training on processes of the Office of Student Disability Services; compliance with ADA Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and related federal and state regulations; usage of Accommodate data management system for faculty and students; disability and inclusion awareness programming

  • Engage in professional development webinars trainings and seminars in order to keep current with changes to laws policies and procedures related to disability services and to advance knowledge of how to best serve students with disabilities in higher education

  • Support University Programs: Open Houses Admitted Student Days New Student Orientation Move-in Weekend and Commencemen

  • Work collaboratively and support efforts within the Success Center to increase retention and persistence to graduation

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Act as a Data Security Steward to include:Responsible for the accuracy security and integrity of data within the area; create and maintain a secure office environment to protect all information resources within your purview; establish and enforce sound policies and procedures to manage the information resources assigned to you; may delegate responsibility to the Data Security Officer in order to assist with the day-to-day management of information; serve in compliance with the Universitys Data Stewardship Policy statement.

  • The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • 1-3 years experience working with individuals with disabilities

  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to students with disabilities

  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with assistive technology and software

  • Ability to triage establish priorities and meet tight deadlines as well as balance varying demands of office activities and handle conflicting demands calmly and professionally.

Preferred

  • Masters Degree

  • Experience in a post-secondary or higher education setting.

  • Knowledgeable in Canvas Accommodate Banner Cognos Excel Google suite products & Starfish

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Ability and willingness to work occasional weekend and evenings hours proctoring exams and staffing University events

  • Mobility to move around campus.

Pay Transparency:

The estimatedpayrange for this position is $ annually. The offeredsalarywill be commensurate with work experience and educational background.
