Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Genetic Counselor to join an outpatient clinical team in Portland OR. This role focuses on providing genetic counseling screening and support for patients at risk of hereditary cancers and other genetic conditions. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical knowledge excellent communication skills and a patient-centered approach to care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide genetic counseling and risk assessment for patients with hereditary cancer and genetic conditions
- Order interpret and communicate genetic test results to patients and healthcare providers
- Deliver psychosocial support and education to patients and families
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to support patient care plans
- Serve as a consultant and resource for both patients and healthcare professionals
- Assist in high-risk patient management prevention strategies and oncology-related initiatives
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EPIC EMR system
Work Schedule:
- 4 days per week: Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday
- Fixed day off: Wednesday Saturday Sunday
- No weekend or on-call requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling from an ABGC-approved training program
- Minimum 1 year of experience in genetic counseling including:
- Cancer risk assessment
- Ordering and interpreting genetic tests
- Providing psychosocial support
- Certification:
- Valid or temporary certification through ABGC or ABMGG
- Oregon state licensure (must be obtained by start date via Oregon Health Licensing Office)
- Strong interpersonal analytical and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with patients at risk for hereditary cancer
- Previous outpatient clinical experience
