Postdoctoral Research Associate Electric Power System
Job Summary
The Interdisciplinary Science (IS) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The appointment will be for a one-year appointment with an opportunity for a one-year renewal to perform research in the area of electric power grids.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform cyber-physical system modeling and simulation for the power grid.
- Perform research on power system dynamics and control under high inverter-based resources (IBRs).
- Develop and apply artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) techniques for power system planning operation control and cybersecurity.
Position Requirements:
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering Math or other related fields with a broad knowledge of electric power systems.
- Experience with cyber-power system modeling simulation dynamics and Python and/or MATLAB programming.
- A strong background in AI/ML applications in the power grid.
- Good written and oral communication skills be willing to take direction and be able to work with others as part of a project team.
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with cybersecurity of energy systems and commonly used tools such as OPAL-RT/RTDS PSS/E PSCAD EXata.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity of industrial control systems and/or quantum computing.
Additional Information:
- Candidates must have received a Ph.D. by the commencement of employment.
- BNL policy requires that after obtaining a PhD eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position excluding time associated with family planning military service illness or other life-changing events.
