Position Description
Job Title: Dean of Students
Reports To: Principal
School: St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School (Preschool Grade 8)
Position Summary: The Dean of Students supports the mission of the school by fostering a safe respectful and faith-centered environment where students can grow academically socially emotionally and spiritually. Working closely with the Principal faculty students and families the Dean of Students promotes positive student behavior supports student well-being and ensures consistent implementation of school policies and procedures. This role emphasizes character formation social-emotional development and partnership with parents to nurture the whole child in accordance with Catholic values.
Key Responsibilities Student Discipline and Detention
- Implement and uphold the schools discipline policies in alignment with the mission and values of Catholic education.
- Address student behavioral concerns in a fair consistent and restorative manner that promotes growth and accountability.
- Communicate with teachers and families regarding behavioral issues and collaborate on appropriate interventions.
- Coordinate and supervise student detention programs and ensure proper documentation of disciplinary actions.
- Maintain accurate records of student discipline and behavior incidents.
Social-Emotional Learning
- Lead and coordinate the schools Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives.
- Implement and support the use of The Social Institute program to help students develop responsible decision-making digital citizenship and positive relationships.
- Plan and coordinate student assemblies and grade-level programming focused on character development leadership and student well-being.
- Organize and facilitate parent education programs related to student wellness social media awareness and adolescent development.
Attendance and Tardiness Monitoring
- Monitor daily student attendance and tardiness to ensure compliance with school policies.
- Identify attendance trends or concerns and work with families to address chronic absenteeism or tardiness.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and communicate with families regarding attendance expectations.
School Safety
- Coordinate and oversee all school safety procedures and emergency preparedness protocols.
- Plan and conduct required safety drills (e.g. fire lockdown evacuation and other emergency drills) in accordance with local and diocesan guidelines.
- Develop review and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure school environment.
- Provide professional development for faculty and staff related to school safety crisis response and student supervision.
Parent Volunteer Program Coordination
- Coordinate the schools Parent Volunteer Program to support school events and initiatives.
- Recruit organize and communicate with parent volunteers.
- Ensure volunteers understand school policies expectations and procedures.
- Collaborate with faculty and school leadership to match volunteer support with school needs.
Additional Conditions of Employment
Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith including in lifestyle and on personal social media.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as a visible and supportive presence throughout the school day in classrooms hallways lunch recess and school events.
- Collaborate with teachers staff and administration to support a positive school culture and climate.
- Support school events activities and programs that strengthen community and student engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in Education Educational Leadership Counseling or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students.
- Strong understanding of child development behavior management and social-emotional learning.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
- Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty parents and students.
Personal Characteristics
- Demonstrates integrity compassion and fairness.
- Promotes a positive respectful and faith-centered school culture.
- Approaches student discipline with a restorative and growth-oriented mindset.
- Organized proactive and able to manage multiple responsibilities.

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Conditions: Normal school office setting Full-time7:45 AM-3:15 PM. May be required to assist with evenings and weekends is necessary for donor meetings and special events.
