Ottawa University (established in 1865) one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park Kansas.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing high-quality and engaging instruction and academic mentoring to learners developing assessing and assuring excellent pedagogy and curriculum design; for promoting learner achievement and academic integrity on behalf of the University; and for collaboration with support services provided through campus units. Academic program development for program currency growth retention and recruitment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

  • Teaching Load: Responsible for generating and delivering classroom learning experiences and clinical skills instruction within the basic medical and clinical science topics. Course assignments may include MSK/Orthopedics Rheumatology Hematology/Oncology Neurology Evidence-Based Medicine and Transition to Clinical Practice according to unit and university requirements.
  • Teaching Standards: Maintain a high standard in classroom instruction through engaging and effective pedagogy exhibit awareness and understanding of best practices in graduate education through application in the classroom and simulation lab and remain current with issues curriculum and classroom approaches in the discipline (A2.05c).
  • Accreditation: Actively participates in the accreditation process compliance and adherence to the ARC-PA standards.
  • Curriculum:
    • Design implement coordinate and evaluate the curriculum (A2.05g).
    • Revise the curriculum based on PA profession competencies entry-level practice and ongoing professional practice.
    • Chair the Curriculum Committee and prepare documents for end of term review.
  • Assessment and Remediation:
    • Evaluate learner performance (A2.05d).
    • Provide remediation instruction (A2.05f).
  • Programmatic Assessment and Evaluation (A2.05h):
    • Maintain effective curricula through participation in university-wide assessment processes.
    • Participate in programmatic data collection and critical analysis and apply the analysis results to create action plans that identify strengths areas needing improvement and weaknesses in the curriculum.
  • Admissions: Participate in the programs admissions process which includes selection (A2.05b).
  • Programmatic:
    • Participate in the development review and revision of the mission statement program goals and competencies as necessary (A2.05a).
    • Participate in evaluating the program (A2.05h).
  • Advising/Mentoring:
    • Attend to learner needs and concerns (social determinants of learning) as a faculty advisor/mentor.
    • Identify and develop opportunities for each learner to succeed through assessment and remediation.
    • Provide academic counseling to learners (A2.05e).
    • Support efforts in retention.
  • Scholarship:
  • Maintain awareness of contemporary trends and evolving knowledge within onesacademic and clinical discipline
  • Attend (either virtually or at a designated location) professional development workshops offered by the university.
  • Attend ones professional meetings and engage in public presentations (in-person and virtually)
  • Involvement in the regional and national community of the PA profession and higher education professionals
  • Service:
    • Participate in local state and national service to the PA profession and/or in higher education learning.
    • Participate in the mentoring and development of new faculty (principal and instructional) as needed.
    • Participate in campus and university-wide governance by responding to and engaging in dialogue related to academic issues across the university.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION:Must be a PA with a license to practice in at least one state.Must possess a doctorate degree Ph.D. or masters degree.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:At least 5-10 years as a clinically practicing PA.Leadership roles in PA curriculum assessment and admissions.Program faculty must be qualified to teach assigned subjects through academic preparation and/or experience.Program faculty must be knowledgeable in course content and effective in teaching assigned subjects.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: List required and/or preferred certification industry specific requirements required or preferred use of equipment and all necessary job skills abilities and knowledge competencies) Provide a list of items below:

  • Preferred doctoral degree or Ph.D.
  • Previous clinical precepting or teaching experience for a PA program.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow university faculty as well as departments who support learner life and academic achievement.
  • Proven ability to teach effectively in a post-secondary classroom.
  • Ability to adjust to and respond to learner and local university needs and concerns.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS (Physical attributes required to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation - examples: sitting lifting # bending driving environmental factors or elements noise level stairs in a building or other factors that will affect working conditions).
