Playgroup Australia is the national peak body for playgroups supporting children and families across the country to connect learn and thrive through the power of play. As the organisation enters a pivotal phase of growth and renewal we are seeking three experienced and purpose-driven Non-Executive Directors to join the Board and help shape the future of a nationally significant community-focused organisation.
This is an opportunity to contribute at a strategic level to an organisation operating at the heart of Australias early years ecosystemwhere social impact public policy and community connection intersect. You will be joining a values-led Board that emphasises respectful debate constructive challenge and collective accountability.
The Opportunity
Playgroup Australia is strengthening its governance and positioning itself for long-term sustainability impact and influence. The Board plays a critical stewardship role in this journeybalancing reform with stability and ambition with care.
We are seeking Directors who bring strong governance capability sound judgement and a collaborative approach to Board contribution.
We are also interested in candidates who bring prior Board Chair experience or the demonstrated capability to step into a future Chair role particularly within not-for-profit or member-based organisations. While the Chair is appointed through a separate internal process this recruitment will contribute to the Boards longer-term leadership pipeline.
We are specifically seeking expertise in the following domains
Legal Quality & Compliance
Government Relations Early Years Policy Advocacy & Strategic Communications
IR / HR & Organisational Transformation
About You
You are an experienced Non-Executive Director (or equivalent senior governance contributor) who brings:
- AICD (or equivalent) governance qualification
- Strong understanding of Board roles fiduciary duties and governance boundaries ideally in the NFP sector
- The ability to contribute constructively in complex evolving environments
- Sound judgement integrity and an enterprise-wide perspective
- A commitment to social impact and alignment with Playgroup Australias purpose
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity building consensus and contributing to long-term strategic thinking rather than operational management.
The Role
As a Director you will:
- Contribute to strategy performance oversight and organisational sustainability
- Provide independent judgement and constructive challenge
- Support a high-performing values-aligned Board culture
- Work collaboratively with fellow Directors the Chair and CEO
- Uphold strong governance risk and accountability frameworks
These are voluntary Non-Executive Director roles typically appointed for a two-year term with the potential for renewal. Directors are expected to commit to approximately six Board meetings per year (mostly held online) in addition to preparation time participation in committees where required and occasional additional engagement as required. The role is national in scope with meetings primarily held virtually alongside some in-person attendance from time to time.
