Job Summary
Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all City-owned vehicles trucks equipment machines small engines hydraulic and diesel engines with main concentration of Sanitation Units. Employee must obtain quotes complete work orders and submit purchase orders documentation as required. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
- Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)
- Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
- Perform diagnostic evaluation of city-owned vehicles trucks and equipment in the Citys fleet. (brakes air conditioning hydraulic electrical engine repair transmission repair oil and filter changes and diesel work)
- Inspects vehicles to ensure that they are safe to operate and that inspection stickers are up-to-date.
- Orders parts and equipment for repairs as necessary.
- Monitors warranties on fleet vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Must have High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience to perform such job.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred but not required.
- Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at Citys expense.
- Applicant must have current valid Class B Drivers License and be insurable.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Knowledge Abilities and Skill
- Mechanical repair and maintenance. (transmissions rear end and braking systems)
- Determine the extent of motor vehicles repair necessary and implement them.
- Multi-task.
- Critical thinker.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Exposure to intermittent machine or related noise or a combination of unpleasant elements such as odors chemical fumes dust smoke heat cold oil dirt or grease.
- Work may involve work in confined or cramped quarters or work around machinery and its moving parts. Work is continually performed outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
