We are seeking a detail-oriented Certified Medical Coder to support outpatient coding operations. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and assigning accurate diagnostic and procedural codes to ensure compliance proper reimbursement and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Assign accurate ICD-10-CM CPT-4 and modifier codes for outpatient encounters
Review clinical documentation and extract relevant data for coding and abstraction
Ensure compliance with coding guidelines regulatory standards and internal policies
Follow ethical coding practices and industry standards
Communicate with providers to clarify documentation through the query process
Maintain coding quality accuracy and productivity benchmarks
Support mentoring of junior coders and knowledge sharing within the team
Participate in ongoing education and maintain required certifications
Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associate Degree in a medical-related field (Preferred)
Certifications (One Required)
CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) or
CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or
RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or
CMC (Certified Medical Coder) or
CCA (Certified Coding Associate)
Required Experience & Skills
Minimum 2 years of outpatient coding experience (E/M coding required)
Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines
Familiarity with coding compliance and reimbursement methodologies
Knowledge of APC guidelines (preferred)
Experience with EHR systems such as EPIC (preferred)
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Neurology and/or Neurosurgery coding
Exposure to HCC (Hierarchical Condition Category) coding
