Job Summary
- Literacy and Media Specialist position is designed to provide hands-on experience to enhance student learning opportunities by fostering student literacy delivering impactful informational literacy instruction promoting inquiry and innovation and building valuable partnerships with families and the community. The Literacy and Media Specialist will inform and empower students and staff to effectively use digital resources and instructional technology that align with established Media Center services.
- Learn to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance teaching learning and resource access and train campus faculty and students in the instructional use of digital resources and information literacy.
- Gradually implement Project READ learning and technology zones to support inquiry critical thinking creation and problem-solving.
- Work closely with teachers to provide opportunities for inquiry that develop research skills and critical thinking including instruction in the use of high-quality databases.
- Attend trainings and professional development sessions as required.
- Develop a media center budget to create media center programming with diverse literacy experiences fostering a love for reading and lifelong learning.
- Partner with faculty to fully realize the curricular and creative potential of technology integration.
- Maintain an updated virtual presence on the campus website and/or social media platforms to provide timely information ensuring equitable access to databases services and programs.
- Provide media center resources to families offering occasional access during extended hours.
- Seek community partnerships and grants to enhance media center programs and resources.
- Maintain a safe clean and accessible media center that promotes a positive learning climate.
- Required Bachelors degree from accredited university.
- Required within one year of hire- enrollment in a Masters degree in Library Science program through a Texas accredited university with a deficiency plan OR if you already have a Masters degree enrolled in School Library Certification program 24 hours at a Texas accredited university.
- Valid Texas teacher certification.
- Required within 3 years of entering into this position candidate must pass the School Librarians TExES (Texas Examination of Educator Standards) after completing Masters in Library Science degree or School Library certificate requirements.
- Required 2 years classroom teaching experience from a public school or a TEA-accredited campus institution (core content preferred).
- Preferred experience working with technologies and integrating technology into instruction.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
- Knowledge of technologies available for use in instructional media setting.
- Demonstrated experience of legal and ethical trends in literacy & technology (copyright & digital citizenship).
- Familiarity with emerging trends and technologies.
- Strong background in working with diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated strong organizational communication collaboration and time management skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
