Summary:
NurseAmerica is seeking an experienced and driven Lead Oncology Pharmacist to oversee oncology pharmacy operations and ensure the safe effective and compliant delivery of chemotherapy and biologic therapies. This leadership role is ideal for a pharmacist with strong oncology expertise and a passion for optimizing patient care workflow efficiency and staff development.
Qualifications
Current New York State Pharmacist license and registration required
Leadership experience in a pharmacy or oncology setting required
Oncology experience required
Completion of a PGY2 Oncology Residency and/or Board Certification in Oncology (BCOP) preferred
In lieu of residency/board certification at least 1 year of experience preparing/evaluating chemotherapy regimens required
Strong knowledge of USP < 797> USP < 800> and sterile compounding regulations
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Program Development
Develop coordinate and maintain training programs and records for chemotherapy preparation
Create and maintain policies and procedures for chemotherapy and biologic medications
Collaborate with pharmacy and infusion center teams to optimize workflow and minimize delays in patient care
Chemotherapy Inventory & Procurement
Partner with Pharmacy Buyer to maintain appropriate inventory levels and minimize drug waste
Routinely review inventory to ensure proper stock organization and removal of expired or unused medications
Clinical Review & Optimization
Review all chemotherapy orders for accuracy safety and optimization
Compare regimens against NCCN guidelines or study protocols and attach supporting references
Collaborate with providers to round doses to appropriate vial sizes to reduce waste
Monitor lifetime cumulative doses for applicable medications (e.g. anthracyclines such as doxorubicin)
Formulary Management & Education
Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new oncology formulary medications
Complete new drug checklists in collaboration with Pharmacy Buyer
Develop and deliver education to pharmacy and oncology staff on new therapies
Identify and communicate drug-specific alerts and requirements (e.g. in-line filters) for system integration
Collaboration & Patient Support
Communicate with infusion center providers and nursing staff regarding any medication-related concerns or discrepancies
Support prior authorization processes to ensure therapy coverage
Provide patient counseling and assist with medication reconciliation as needed
