Special Information:

This position may be eligible for a statutory base pay increase of $1.00 an hour effective July 1 2026.

Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Job Duties:

Based on goals developed by biologists and fisheries managers the biologist 1 will formulate yearly and daily work plans to collect scientific data establish sampling sites and oversee methods for monitoring fish populations and habitat parameters. The Technician will also enter summarize analyze and ensure quality control of ecological/biological data and create reports. Purchase maintenance repair and operation of a variety of field equipment such as boats outboard motors vehicles electro-fishers nets and specialized fisheries survey and inventory equipment is the responsibility of the technician.

The biologist 1 will be responsible for managing out-flows at Ashley Lake Dam in accordance with the Ashley Lake management plan. The technician will also be responsible for cataloging and reporting flow and staff gage data coordinating an annual dam safety inspection performing dam maintenance and drafting an annual state of the lake letter.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge skills and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in fish biology fish and wildlife management ecology biology and three years of progressive job-related experience or work closely related to fish and wildlife biology. Combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
