Lead Engineer Electrical Data Centre
Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
Priority 1 Client Engagement & Technical Leadership
- Act as the primary electrical technical interface with clients and stakeholders
- Lead high-level technical discussions and design reviews
- Clearly explain:
- System architecture
- Redundancy philosophy
- Design risks and trade-offs
- Prepare and own:
- Electrical Basis of Design (BoD)
- Design Basis Reports (DBR)
- Technical presentations and reports
Priority 2 Electrical System Design & Architecture
a. Power System Architecture
- Define and design from Concept to Detailed design up to IFC:
- HT / MV / LV power distribution systems
- Utility interface and substation (AIS/GIS) concepts
- UPS systems (centralized / distributed) and battery technologies
- Generator-backed emergency systems
- Busbar trunking and cable-based distribution
- Earthing Design for large campuses.
- Develop resilience strategies (N N1 2N N2 DR/BR) aligned with Uptime Tier
b. Engineering Analysis & Calculations
- Perform and review:
- Electrical load calculations and power balance
- Cable sizing and voltage drop calculations
- Short circuit analysis and protection coordination
- Sequence of Operations
- Lead system studies using:
- ETAP (or equivalent)
- Coordinate with mechanical systems:
- Integration of HVAC loads and diversity factors
c. Detailed Design & Documentation
- Lead design across:
- Concept (30%) Detailed design IFC -> RFP /Technical Specs /BoQ documents.
- Review and approve:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Layouts (substations UPS rooms battery rooms data halls)
- Equipment sizing and schedules
- Ensure compliance with:
- TIA-942
- IEC / IEEE / IS standards
- Uptime Institute guidelines
d. Coordination & Project Delivery
- Lead multidisciplinary coordination with:
- Mechanical Architectural Structural Fire BMS/EPMS BIM teams
- Optimize:
- Space planning (electrical rooms cable routing equipment layout)
- Interface with:
- Utilities authorities vendors and global stakeholders
- Support procurement:
- Technical specifications
- BOQs
- Vendor technical evaluations
e. Construction & Validation (CRITICAL)
- Provide technical support during:
- Construction and installation
- Site issue resolution
- Participate in:
- Data center audits
- Reliability and redundancy validation
f. Team Leadership & Quality
- Lead and mentor electrical engineers and BIM modelers
- Ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with project standards
- Own:
- Design risk
- Change control
- Technical issue resolution
Mandatory Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
- Strong experience in Data Center electrical systems including:
- HT / MV / LV systems LV distribution N2C Distributed NN
- UPS batteries (VRLA / Li-ion) generators
- Earthing & lightning protection
- HV/MV/LV Cables & bus ducts
- Deep understanding of:
- Uptime Tier III / IV requirements
- Mission-critical redundancy
- Experience in:
- Hyperscale / colocation data centers
Tools & Digital Capability
- AutoCAD (mandatory)
- Revit / BIM coordination
- ETAP (or equivalent analysis tools)
Communication (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills
- Ability to:
- Lead discussions with client SMEs
- Resolve complex issues through structured communication
- Produce high-quality technical documentation
Qualifications :
Qualifications & Experience
- BE / BTech in Electrical Engineering
- 10 years total experience
- 5 years in Data Center / mission-critical projects
Good to Have
- Uptime ATD / CDCS/CDCE
- Experience with liquid-cooled / AI data centers
- Exposure to commissioning and audits
- International project experience
