Job Description: Computer Science / Ethics and Sustainability in IT SME

We are currently seeking a qualified Subject Matter Expert to develop an online undergraduate computer science course.
CPSC 2000 Ethics and Sustainability in IT
This role will focus on course design and content development for Bachelor of Computer Science students in UFreds fully online undergraduate program.
CPSC 2000 Ethics and Sustainability in IT introduces students to ethical social professional and sustainability considerations in computing and information technology. The course should help students analyze the broader impacts of computing systems evaluate responsible technology practices and apply ethical reasoning to realistic professional and societal scenarios.
What youll do
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality undergraduate course content for CPSC 2000 Ethics and Sustainability in IT that aligns with UFred academic standards and reflects current issues in computing information technology ethics and sustainability.
- Create clear accurate and engaging learning materials including course learning outcomes weekly modules readings cases applied examples and learning activities.
- Design assessments and learning activities that support ethical reasoning professional judgment critical analysis and application of sustainability principles in computing and IT contexts.
- Incorporate relevant topics such as professional responsibility privacy data ethics accessibility algorithmic bias responsible AI environmental impacts of computing sustainable IT practices digital inclusion and the social impacts of technology where appropriate.
- Use Canadian and international examples standards frameworks and case studies where relevant to support applied undergraduate learning.
- Collaborate with the Academic and Program Development teams to ensure consistency of course outcomes structure assessment design and online course delivery expectations.
- Participate in course reviews by providing expert feedback to ensure accuracy relevance and alignment with course and program expectations.
- Ensure course materials are appropriate for diverse learners in an asynchronous online environment and support accessibility clarity and inclusive learning.
What youll need
Qualifications
A PhD PhD candidacy or masters degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: computing ethics responsible technology sustainability in IT responsible AI data ethics privacy technology policy professional practice in computing or social impacts of computing.
Experience developing course content applied learning activities case studies or assessments at the post-secondary level.
Strong understanding of online learning principles and effective digital content development.
Experience with learning management systems and educational technology tools is considered an asset.
Excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively within an established course-development process and meet agreed-upon development timelines.
A completed PhD is preferred; however candidates with a relevant masters degree and substantial applied teaching professional or curriculum-development experience will be considered.
Term of Appointment
This is a contract-based appointment aligned with UFreds course development and delivery cycle. Course development is expected to occur over approximately 8 weeks with instructional delivery opportunities following the course launch based on program needs and candidate availability. Where possible UFred prefers that course developers also teach the courses they develop.
The scope of the assigned course development will determine contract length and workload.
