Safety Manager - Tri Delta Transit
Salary Range: $80000 $96000 (commensurate with experience)
Role purpose:
Provide overall leadership and direction on safety while ensuring an exceptional safety culture with KTA location(s). Lead and direct the safety and training program for fixed-route commuter and/or paratransit services. Responsible for implementation of a safety program consistent with contract corporate federal and state requirements. Provides general supervision and guidance to safety personnel. Responsible for oversight of special projects.
Knowledge and Experience:
- High school diplomarequired; college degree preferred
- Musthavea currentCAClass B Commercial Driver Licensewith airbrakes and passenger endorsement
- Must have a valid medical examiners certificate
- Must have a valid VTT certification
- Must have had CA Class B with passenger endorsement for a minimum of 2 full years
- Must have at least 3 years progressive transit experience with commercial class B vehicles in a fixed route transit system
- Knowledgeable with DOT policiesFTACalOSHA federalOSHA NIMS EPAstandardsand ADA requirements
- Experience developing and implementing safety program plans and procedures; conducting investigations analyzing data andidentifyingand recommending corrective action
- Mustmaintainconfidentiality and safeguarding of sensitive material
- Conducting oral presentations relaying technical information in understandable terms
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce
- Intermediate knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suite
- CPRAEDand First Aid Certification (Provided by the Company)

- Possess the skills necessary to write and express oneself orally in a logical comprehensive and intelligent manner as well as good organizational skills

- Designs and delivers driver training and safety courses; trainsnew driversand retrains those involved in accidents
- Creates andmaintainsall department-related files asrequired
Strategic Planning and Reporting
- Coordinate the monthly safety reporting bringing together the performance trends in our safety KPIs delivery against location safety plans and safety risk assessment
- Ensure the location leadership teamand the clientis informed of safety performance withtimelyalerts providedper the contract
- Drive a continuous improvement culture in safety performance by working collaboratively with location resulting in all leading and lagging indicator improvementse.g. AFR and IFR
- Chairs Safety and Accident Review committees
- Investigates incidents accidents and work-related injuries including accident investigation accident reports accident files accident register and follows up with the claims office and adjusters as necessary
- Effectively direct Drug and Alcohol Programas the responsible DER forFTA/DOT testingfor location to ensure complete federal and corporate Third Party Administrators and Vendors
Safety Management System
- Lead the site implementation of the Safety Management System Plan comprehensive safety policies procedures and tools to enhance compliance with corporate direction in efforts to reduce accidents/injuries in the workplace
- Monitor compliance with the KTAs SMS policies and procedures conducting an annual safety audit
- Ensure all relevant statutory and regulatory safety polices are applied and adhered to
- Assistsclients maintenance personnelin ensuring compliance with environmental policies and regulationsas needed
- Management of Onboard Surveillance Systems
Safety Assurance
- Monitor and evaluate the continued effectiveness of risk control strategies
- Identifyand assess new hazards introduced in the workplace
- Oversee ongoing monitoring and recording of safety performance
Safety Promotion
- Establish andmaintaina culture of safety so that safety is the front of mind consideration for all employees and a way of life within the organization
- Contribute to the safety culture through displaying exemplary safety-oriented behaviors
