Job Summary
The Pharmacy Intern will assist licensed pharmacists in various aspects of pharmacy operations including medication dispensing patient care and inventory management. This role is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience enhancing the interns understanding of hospital pharmacy practice and contributing to improved patient outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Assists pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications according to prescriptions and established protocols.
- Participates in medication reconciliation and assist in managing medication therapy for patients as required.
- Supports the maintenance of accurate inventory levels and assist with ordering and restocking medications.
- Collaborates with healthcare teams to gather medication histories and provide patient education under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Performs routine checks on medication storage areas to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Participates in pharmacy rounds and assist with clinical activities as assigned.
- Maintains accurate documentation of all pharmacy-related activities and interventions.
- Engages in continuing education opportunities and contribute to departmental projects as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Other Enrollment in an approved program with the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). required
- 0-1 years Introductory or Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience as a part of training program. required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of pharmacology therapeutics and pharmacy practice standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in pharmacy software preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech State Pharmacy Technician Permit required
